3rd anniversary at the Lincoln Grille

We had an incredible dinner at The Lincoln Grille on Friday (our 3rd anniversary), a place which we frequent whenever we want to celebrate anything. Mainly because a dinner for two will set us back almost £100 each time, so we keep it for special occasions, and Friday was no different at £91+.

We had (crap photos courtesy of my Blackberry, which is completely crap at low-contrast photos):

Wine: 2009 Foundstone Shiraz (Australian)

Starter: Haddock & Saffron Risotto
with Soft Poached Egg and Lemon Butter Sauce

Main: 8oz Fillet Steak (medium-rare)
with Chips and Au Poivre Sauce

The wine was pleasantly drinkable, smells stronger than it tastes, very sweet and smooth with none of the sharp aftertaste some younger wines have. The taste changes with the steak that we had with it later though, into something much richer and less sweet, emphasizing the peppery steak sauce.

Neither of us had the starter before, but it was so delicious and to-die-for. The flavours were rich and subtle at the same time, and each forkful just melts in your mouth leaving you wanting more. I pierced the poached egg at the start and let the liquid yolk run all over the risotto, but Boy thought it was a dollop of cream (he doesn't like cream), so he didn't end up touching the egg until the end when he asked me if "the cream" was any good and I told him it was a poached egg. :P Admittedly, it did look like a dollop of cream.

And the steak was just beautiful, soft like butter. And mine was heart-shaped! :P

For dessert, I had:

Dessert: Pear Tartin
with Brandy & Caramelised Apple Ice Cream

Again, a deceptively subtle taste but still full of fruity ripe pear flavour and a hint of brandy, warm against the cold refreshing apple ice cream on top (decorated with a long piece of crunchy vanilla biscuit). At the bottom is a thin layer of dessert puff pastry, lightly salted to offset the general sweetness of the dessert. So yummy. <3

For my next visit, I'll probably pick the same three courses again. I love them that much!

Edit to add:

Cheesy photo of the happy couple. :P

Fin.
